Alex von Furstenberg—Innovator And Investor
As a longtime watcher of the current financial market, Alex von Furstenberg is not one to go for the low-hanging fruit. An old hand in the investor’s market, von Furstenberg has made it his business to bring out the potential of undervalued companies in this risk-averse economic climate.
With the shadow of the last recession still in people’s minds, the threat of yet another economic meltdown is now hovering in the distance. It is understandable, then, that more and more people would be hesitant in making risky investments. Alex von Furstenberg, however, has followed the market long enough to know when a risky investment will pay off. His work in the field has crystallized during his tenure at Arrow Capital Management—the alternative asset management firm.
At Arrow Capital, von Furstenberg and co-manager Mal Serure have endeavored to expand their investor base. They have taken dramatic steps in diversifying the Arrow Capital portfolio, such as making bolder choices in their event-driven investments. The degree of judgment von Furstenberg and Serure have demonstrated on new business opportunities has allowed Arrow Capital to prosper from even the most drastic company-wide events such as bankruptcies, restructurings, spin-offs and demutualization.
Alex von Furstenberg got his first taste of the investor’s market in 1993. A BA graduate fresh out of Brown University, von Furstenberg got his start as a trader at Allen & Company, a New York-based investment bank. He operated at their risk arbitrage desk, collaborating on solutions for some of the bank’s more volatile financial transactions.
Over time, von Furstenberg began to make a name in the world of investments at large. Not one to coast on his unique family background, von Furstenberg strove to achieve nothing less than the long-term realization of every one of his major ventures. Besides ushering Arrow Capital Management to success, von Furstenberg has also helped set up some of the fastest-rising investment firms in the past years. He currently serves as Chief Investment Officer for Arrow Investments., Inc. and for Ranger Global Advisors. He is a part of the Board of Directors for groups such as W.P. Stewart, Diane von Furstenberg Studio, and IAC.
